Pakistan proves again why they are ‘unpredictable’

133 runs are needed to win, 6 wickets in hand. In such a situation, the batting team is more likely to win. And even if you can’t win, you can at least get close to winning – that’s all. But when the team is Pakistan, it is difficult to guess anything about them. Because Pakistan Cricket means ‘unpredictable’. It is foolish to speculate in advance about the team.

Pakistan Cricket Team could not even come close to winning the first Test of the two-match series against hosts New Zealand at Mount Munganui. Pakistan was aiming to win by 373 runs. At one stage of the match, Pakistan’s score was 240 for 4. Then in Pakistan’s innings called disaster. Pakistan were bowled out for 271 from 240 for 4, losing the match by 101 runs. Mohammad Rizwan’s team lost the last 6 wickets for only 31 runs. The win, meanwhile, gave Ken Williamson a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

Pakistan were all out for 239 in their first innings. New Zealand, who scored 431 in the first innings, declared their innings at 180 for five in the second innings, setting a target of 373 for Pakistan.

In reply Pakistan lost 4 wickets for only 75 runs. Fawad Alam and captain Mohammad Rizwan pulled the team from there. The pair scored 165 runs for the fifth wicket. The pair broke up as soon as the team reached 240 runs. Rizwan returned to the dressing room with 60 runs. After a while, Fawad Alam (102), who scored a century in Tests after 11 years, also returned.

For New Zealand, Tim Southee, Trent Bolt, Neil Wagner, Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Santner took two wickets each.

Kiwi captain Ken Williamson, who scored 129 in the first innings and 21 in the second innings, was named Man of the Match. The second and final Test of the series will start on January 3 in Christchurch.
