Japanese taking ice bath in purification ritual

Nearly a hundred people took an icy bath in Tokyo on 13 January. The aim of this bath was to purify their souls and wish for good health in the new year. This was 64th annual ritual in their country. The ice bath was held in temperatures nearing five degree Celsius. 

At Tokyo shrine, Nearly one hundred people gathered to take icy bath on Sunday.

They were in barely dressed. In this bath about 98 participants was there, where 12 women, an 83-year-old man, and a 9-year-old boy who came with his father to wish him luck and health.

This event usually take place on the second Sunday of January. Participants share New Year’s greetings to one another.
