List of all Bangladesh Government Agricultural Departments/Wings (With Links)

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Agriculture (https://moa.gov.bd) sets policy through its internal wings, and about 16 to 17 departments, research institutes and authorities carry out the work. The biggest are the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) and its research institutes, such as BRRI, BARI, BJRI, BSRI, BINA and BWMRI. Fisheries, livestock, forestry and tea sit under other ministries.
Note: Information on this page is compiled from the Ministry of Agriculture’s public pages, agency websites, and third-party references. The Ministry’s site blocked automated access to its full agency table, so some entries rely on search snippets and older references. Minciter has not independently tested every link. Click each link before publishing, because government domains in Bangladesh change often.
How the Ministry Is Organized
The Ministry of Agriculture sits in the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka. It has two layers. The wings are internal divisions of the Ministry itself, and they handle policy, planning, budgets and coordination. The departments, research institutes and authorities are separate offices with their own heads, field staff and websites, and they do the delivery work: advising farmers, supplying seed and irrigation, and running research.
The Ministry’s own description says it is made up of nine wings. An older description on the same site says seven, so the structure has changed over the years. Its agency count also varies by source, from 15 to 16. Treat any fixed number with caution and check the Ministry’s list.

| Bangladesh Applied Nutrition Research and Training Institute (BARTAN) | Applied nutrition research and training, in Dhaka. The Ministry lists its address as Manik Mia Avenue | https://birtan.gov.bd |
The BARTAN link matches the address the Ministry’s own agency page gives, but the site name uses the older BIRTAN spelling. Test it before you publish. The Hortex address comes from an older extension-system reference, so check it too.
Research Institutes Under the Ministry
The Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) is the apex body that coordinates the National Agricultural Research System. Its office is at Farmgate, Dhaka. A Wikipedia entry on BARC counts seven institutes under the Ministry of Agriculture.
| Institute | Focus | Location | Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) | Coordination of national agricultural research | Farmgate, Dhaka | https://barc.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) | Crops other than rice, jute and sugarcane | Joydebpur, Gazipur | https://bari.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) | Rice | Joydebpur, Gazipur | https://brri.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) | Jute and allied fibers | Manik Mia Avenue, Dhaka | https://bjri.gov.bd |

| Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute (BWMRI) | Wheat and maize. Established by an Act of Parliament in 2017 | Dinajpur | https://bwmri.gov.bd |
BSRI’s name is “Sugarcrop” in the Ministry’s list and “Sugarcane” in some older sources. The Ministry’s spelling is safer.
Agricultural Bodies Under Other Ministries
Some agricultural institutions do not belong to the Ministry of Agriculture. They are useful to include if readers search for “agriculture” broadly, but keep them in a separate section.
| Body | Ministry | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Department of Fisheries | Fisheries and Livestock | https://fisheries.gov.bd |
| Department of Livestock Services | Fisheries and Livestock | https://dls.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) | Fisheries and Livestock | https://blri.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) | Environment | https://bfri.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI) | Commerce | https://btri.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Sericulture Research and Training Institute (BSRTI) | Textiles and Jute | https://bsrti.gov.bd |
| Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) | Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives | https://bard.gov.bd |
| Rural Development Academy (RDA) | Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives | https://rda.gov.bd |
The ministry assignments for the research institutes come from a national agricultural research vision document, which places BFRI under Environment and Forests, BTRI under Commerce, and BLRI and the Fisheries Research Institute under Fisheries and Livestock. I did not include the fisheries research institute’s link because I could not confirm its address.
