Coronavirus infection kills at least 90 in Maharashtra, India
Complications after coronavirus (Covid-19) The Ministry of Health has written to every state and union territory of India to declare the mucous disease “Black Fungus” as an epidemic under the Epidemic Disease Act 1897.
According to The Telegraph, at least 90 people have died of coronavirus infection in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.
At present, at least eight hundred and fifty patients are admitted to various hospitals in Maharashtra due to the disease. Experts fear that the number could drop to 5,000 in the next few months.
Earlier, the Telangana and Tamil Nadu governments had issued orders declaring black fungus a deadly disease.
The Rajasthan government on Wednesday (May 19th) declared the black fungus an epidemic in their state. In addition, it has been decided to perform endoscopy on every patient recovering from covid in Madhya Pradesh.
This mucous disease known as black fungus was extremely rare in India before the second wave of covid. Previously, the disease was found only in patients with diabetes or AIDS.
According to US hospitals and Indian doctors, without first aid, the death rate from black fungus is 50%. They are currently being forced to remove patients’ eyes or jaws to control and prevent the disease and to save lives.
Diabetes patients are at the highest risk, doctors say. They further said that oxygenation of the patient with covidosis can dry out the nasal cavity which increases the risk of black fungus.
Authorities in northern Rajasthan have declared at least 100 people infected with the black fungus as an epidemic.
Currently there is a crisis of amphotericin B injection in the states of India which is currently the only available treatment for black fungus.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 2,76,110 people were newly infected with coronavirus in India on Thursday (May 20), slightly more than the previous day.
