Human Activities Threaten Environmental Sustainability

Everyday new number of population is adding in the earth whither its capacity is remaining as previous. The current (2017) world population growth rate is 1.11% (worldometers) even though the rate has been declined comparing with past years. In the year of 1959 the world population was 3 billon (worldometers) which has been reached 7 billion by the year 2011 (United Nations Population Fund)and it is estimated that the population will be 11.2 billion by 2100 (United Nations). It is need to know that the world has its own carrying capacity. By concerning upon food resources, it is projected that the earth has 10 billion people capacity limit.

However, more the population is adding more the resources they are using for their living in this planet. Peoples are using water, demanding food, gradually grabbing forest areas, burning fossil fuels and inducing industrial pollution and deforestation. Human destructive activities rise imbalance in earth system.

Fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas use as energy sources to generate power but burning fossil fuel is very dangerous for environment because these give release carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other gases which trap heat in the earth and responsible for global warming. Industries are mainly responsible to burn fossil fuel in excessive amount. Moreover, nature is getting weaker to absorb the emitted excessive gas as deforestation is taking place extensively.

Human activities are causing imbalanced greenhouse gases in the earth atmosphere. According to IPCC reported that there have more than 95% probability to make planet warmer over the past 50 years by the human activities.

We are part of the planet but we should use its resources by maintaining its balance. Our insensible activities is moving our planet towards a devastating result. The climate change effect like global warming, sea level rise, glaciers melting is already started to show it’s threaten.  The world is already facing heat wave, coastal area sinking, water scarcity and agricultural yield reduction. This is the time to save our earth by rethinking. We have started the chain and only we can maintain the chain. We should start to use renewable energy from our natural sources like wind or sun as an alternative of fossil fuel burning and also we should stop destroying our natural capital indiscriminately.
