Airlines No Longer Flying Under Their Old Name

Some names still circulate online even though the airlines no longer sell tickets in Bangladesh.

Regent Airways, a Bangladeshi private carrier, has not operated since March 2020, so it is not counted among the active airlines. Jet Airways, the Indian carrier, ceased operations in 2019. Do not book through any site or agent claiming to sell tickets for either one.

How to Choose Where to Book

For domestic flights, compare Biman, US-Bangla, NovoAir and Air Astra on the same date. Fares on Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka to Chattogram move a lot around Eid, winter holidays and long weekends. Check at least two airlines, because one may be sold out while another still has cheaper seats.

For the Middle East, you have the most choice. Biman and US-Bangla fly direct, and Emirates, Etihad and Saudia offer connections through their hubs. Direct flights save hours. Connections can be cheaper but add a layover and a second boarding.

For Southeast Asia and East Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air Malaysia, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and China Eastern all serve Dhaka, and US-Bangla flies direct to several of those cities. Compare total travel time, not only the ticket price.

Book directly with the airline when you can. Changes, refunds and baggage disputes are far easier to sort out when you hold the ticket with the airline itself rather than through a third party.

Tips Before You Visit an Airline Office

  • Call first. Offices move between buildings in Dhaka, and counters often close earlier than you expect, especially on Fridays and public holidays.
  • Carry your passport or national ID and the booking reference or ticket number.
  • For refunds or date changes, ask what the fee will be before you agree. Fees depend on the fare class you bought.
  • For international trips, confirm baggage allowance and check-in closing time. Many airlines close check-in 60 to 90 minutes before departure at Shahjalal, and lines can be long.
  • Save the airline’s official website in your phone. It is the fastest way to check flight status on the day.
