Sweden is a ‘Scandinavian’ country. By Scandinavian we mean 3 countries. The countries are – Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Many say ‘Nordic Country’ again. By Nordic countries we mean 5 countries. The countries are – Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.

Sweden is one of the 26 Schengen countries in Southern Europe. The capital of the country is Stockholm. About 1 crore 2 lakh people live in the country. The official language is Swedish. The area is about 4 lakh 50 thousand square kilometers. The currency is Swedish Krona. 1 Swedish krona is close to 10 Bangladeshi taka.

Swedes are one of the peaceful and happy nation. The country is famous for its natural scenery and delicious food. About 91 percent of the people of the country are educated. Signup rate is around 99%. The country’s education system is completely free for its citizens.

According to the Swedish Higher Education Authority, the number of international students in Sweden is increasing day by day. Currently, around 50,000 foreign students are studying in the country. About 7-10 thousand non-European students are studying from China, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Mexico, Colombo and Bangladesh. Bangladesh is currently the third largest exporter of students to Sweden in Asia. India and China are ranked first and second respectively.

Sweden’s education and admission system is slightly different. There are 2 intakes per year. 2 intakes take admission in maximum 4 rounds.

Autumn (Autumn Semester):

First Round: The first round of autumn intake starts in the month of October-January. The admission results are released in the month of April. The semester starts in the month of August.

Second Round: The second round of autumn intake starts in March-April. The admission results are released in the month of July. The semester starts in the month of August.

Spring (Spring Semester): Applications are currently being accepted for Spring Intake.

First Round: The first round of spring intake will start in the month of June-August. The admission result will be declared in the month of October. The semester will start in January next year.

Second Round: The second round of spring intake will start in the month of September-October. The admission result will be declared in the month of December. The semester will start in January next year.

Currently the application fee is 900 Swedish krona. The annual tuition fee is about 130 thousand Swedish krona. About 12 lakhs in Bangladeshi Taka. And the tuition fee has to be paid only after receiving the letter of acceptance.

According to the new rules of 2019, the applicant must be able to show 8,370 krona, 3,500 krona for spouse and 2,100 krona for children for accommodation, food and living expenses.

Who can apply-

  1. Those who have completed bachelor’s degree.
  2. Those who want to do Masters in Sweden (married/single).
  3. Those who have done IELTS. There are some institutions, where admission is possible without IELTS.

Conditions for obtaining Residence Permit-

  1. Must be full time student.
  2. Must have financial capacity.
  3. Must have travel insurance.

The special advantage of studying in Sweden is that students can go with their spouses and children. If the study period is more than 6 months, then the student’s spouse will get residence permit and work permit. At the end of the studies will get employment residence permit or business residence permit. Finally can apply for Swedish citizenship.

Selection Process

Selection process is made on the basis of merit. English language skills are very important. In this case, if the student’s IELTS score is 6, then there is no difficulty in getting admission and visa.

Getting a job in Sweden is not very difficult. Labor quality is also good there. A valid work permit holder is paid 178 Swedish krona per hour.
