Pavel Durov, the Russian-born French tycoon and founder and CEO of messaging app Telegram, was arrested at Bourget Airport outside Paris on Saturday (August 24) evening. The news agency Reuters reported this, citing sources from TF-1 TV and BFM TV.
Pavel Durov was arrested after an arrest warrant was issued following a preliminary investigation by French police, TF-1 TV said on its website. At that time he was going out of France in his private plane.
According to information from both television channels, an investigation was already underway into the cause of inadequate moderators on the Telegram messaging app. Such vulnerabilities in the messaging app are believed to help criminal activities go unhindered.

Reuters, France’s interior ministry or police declined to comment on Pavel Durov’s arrest.
In 2013, Russian-born Durov founded Telegram with his brother. However, he left the country in 2014 after he refused to comply with government directives to stop providing information to Russian opposition parties on the social media platform V-Contact.
Last April, Durov told US journalist Tucker Carlson, “I’d rather be free than be dictated to.” He said this without finding a home for his company in Berlin, London, Singapore and San Francisco.
When Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Telegram became the main source of news for both warring parties, spreading crude and misleading information.
