The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as an epidemic. The virus is caused by a member of the coronavirus family that has never been seen before. Like other coronaviruses, it has migrated from animal to human.
A person may be infected with the virus 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms of coronavirus disease. According to the WHO, the most common symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are fever, fatigue and dry cough. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without the need for special treatment. At the very least, the disease can be fatal and extra fatal. About one in six people became seriously ill. Elderly people and those with various diseases (such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease) can be vulnerable and critically ill.
Some patients may have colds, sore throats, nasal congestion and pain or diarrhea. Some people begin to lose their taste and/ or sense of smell.
According to the WHO, the common symptoms of a person with the disease are:
- Cough
- Fever
- Tiredness
- Trouble breathing (in severe cases)
In the United Kingdom, the National Health Service (NHS) has identified some of the specific symptoms of the disease.
1. High Temperature – You will feel hot when you touch your chest or back
2. Continuous new cough – This means you start coughing again and again
Since it is a viral pneumonia, there is no use of antibiotics. Antiviral drugs against flu are not effective and there is currently no vaccine for the disease. Healing from this disease depends on the person’s immunity.
