Tesla is set to begin production of the all-electric Cybertruck in late 2023. Meanwhile, the production of the Tesla Cybertruck, which was officially unveiled in 2019, is being delayed for the fourth time.
While production was initially targeted for late 2021, the production date has since been pushed back first to late 2022, then to early 2023 and now to late 2023, according to a Reuters report.
Last month, Tesla announced that work has already begun on their new Texas plant. This is the site where the Cybertruck is supposed to be mass produced. Initial production is expected to begin in mid-2023, and the company is in the final stages for the Cybertruck, Musk said in a recent financial report.
After the Cybertruck’s initial release, several thousand buyers have already paid $100 to reserve it. However, Tesla has not yet revealed the market release date, final price or any confirmed specs of the final version of the electric car.
What is Cybertruck?
Tesla’s Cybertruck is an upcoming all-electric vehicle or battery-powered electric light-duty truck. Tesla’s Cybertruck is different from conventional pickup trucks. The stainless steel body and design make it look like a car straight out of a science fiction movie. According to Tesla it is designed to have ‘better performance than a truck and more performance than a sports car’. The truck will feature an ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel exterior and Tesla Armor Glass.
Possible specs and price
Exactly how much Tesla’s Cybertruck will cost is currently uncertain. However, it is believed that the Tesla Cybertruck is going to be more expensive than the planned price.
US technology website The Verge reports that the much-discussed Tesla Cybertruck was supposed to start at $39,900, but that is no longer happening. Because it was 2019 when the Cybertruck was first announced, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently said that ‘a lot has changed’ since then. It is said that there may be changes in the specs of the Cybertruck.
At the company’s annual shareholder meeting, citing inflation and other “various issues,” Musk said the Cybertruck’s specs and price “will be different.” Musk didn’t reveal any details beyond noting that the price won’t be the same.
However, in 2019, Tesla said it would build 3 versions of the Cybertruck.
The single motor rear wheel drive version can go up to 250 miles on a single charge. It will have a carrying capacity of up to 7,500 pounds and the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The price of which was set at 39 thousand 900 dollars.
The dual motor all-wheel drive version can go up to 300 miles on a single charge. It will have a payload capacity of up to 10,000 pounds and the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The price of which was set at 49 thousand 900 dollars.
The triple motor all-wheel drive version can go up to 500 miles on a single charge. It will have a carrying capacity of up to 14,000 pounds and the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. The price of which was set at 69 thousand 900 dollars.
Musk said the Cybertruck will be in production by ‘the middle of next year’. But there is also a possibility of delay.
Finally
Is Tesla ready to make those 3 versions yet? There is no right answer. There is no clear answer as to when exactly it will go into production.
On the other hand, competitors like Ford and Rivian have already launched their own electric pickups. Ford says it plans to build 150,000 F-150 Lightnings by 2023. Meanwhile, Tesla has recently raised the prices of its non-Vaporware lineup of electric vehicles (EVs) except for the Model 3.
Tesla also did not provide a definitive answer on the number of Cybertruck reservations they currently have on file. In June 2020, the number was reported to be 650,000. But the number is estimated to be much higher.
A crowdsourced CyberTruck reservation tally on the CyberTruck forum in May 2021 had more than 28,000 entries, according to a report by the automotive website ElectTrak. Which had more than 1 million reservations. The number has continued to rise over the past year and is now thought to be around 1.5 million.
