Police have arrested SI (dismissed) Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, a fugitive in-charge of Sylhet’s Bandarbazar police outpost. He was arrested by a team of district police from Dona area bordering Kanaighat on Monday afternoon.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Lutfar Rahman confirmed the information in the first light. He said he was arrested around 1.30 pm while fleeing to India. A press conference on Akbar’s arrest will be held in the afternoon.
However, another source in the border area said that Akbar was living in Khasia village on the other side of the Dona border in Kanaighat. When the Khasias sent him to Bangladesh, the police got the news and arrested him.
Donna, two eyewitnesses at the border, told Prothom Alo that Akbar had introduced himself to the police at the time of his arrest. At that time his dress was very much like that of the people living in Khasia village. Bead necklaces can also be seen around the neck.
