Iran’s senior nuclear scientist Muhsin Fakhrizadeh has been killed in a terrorist attack. He was killed in a four-way explosion and shelling by a group of assassins in the town of Absard in Damavand County, Tehran Province, on Friday (November 27th). Fars News Agency confirmed the information.
Fakhrizadeh was the head of the ministry’s Organization of Defense Innovation and Research (SPNP), according to the Iranian Defense Ministry’s public relations department. He was seriously injured in a clash between the terrorist and his security forces. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition. There he died.
Muhsin Fakhrizadeh is said to have been tasked with building a nuclear weapon for Iran. However, Tehran has always denied the allegations.
Iran’s defense ministry said doctors had unfortunately failed to keep him alive. This scientist has been martyred in a terrorist attack after a long struggle and impeccable contribution.
At a news conference, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “Remember the name of this scientist.” The Israeli Foreign Ministry declined to comment on Muhsin Fakhriza’s assassination at a regular news conference.
Israel has been accused of killing Iranian scientists in a series of attacks a decade ago.
Witnesses told Fars News Agency they heard the blast. Then came the sound of machine gun shots. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a private car carrying Fakhri. Fars News reported that Fakhrizadeh and his bodyguards, who were injured, were taken to hospital.
A picture was later published on the country’s state television website. Security forces were seen surrounding the crash site. Pictures and videos circulating on social media show the Nissan sedan carrying Fakhrizade being rammed into cars. Blood stained all around.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The commander of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guards, Huain Salami, tweeted about Fakhrizad’s death. “Atomic scientists are being brutally killed to deprive us of modern science,” he said.
Hussein Deghan, an adviser to Iran’s supreme religious leader and a possible presidential candidate in the country’s 2021 election, has issued a stern warning in a tweet. He said the Zionists were using various means to persuade their allies to wage a war against Iran in the political last days.
Pointing to US President Donald Trump, he added, “We will jump like lightning against the killers.” They must repent for their evil deeds.
Reacting to the news of Fakhrizad’s death, a spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization told the country’s media that such incidents could not happen. The commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Guards, Huain Salami, said Iran would avenge the killing of its nuclear scientist, as in the past.
The United States imposed sanctions on Fakhri in 2008. Last year, Washington imposed sanctions on the organization he led.
