Percentage Calculator: Work Out Any Percentage Fast
Percentages come up everywhere, in discounts, exam marks, interest, tips, and price changes, and they’re easy to get wrong in your head. The percentage calculator below handles the three questions people actually ask: what is X percent of a number, what percent one number is of another, and how much something changed in percent. Pick a mode, type two numbers, and read the answer.

How to work out percentages by hand
The percentage calculator does the math, but knowing the formulas helps you trust the answer.
- X percent of a number: divide the percent by 100, then multiply. 20 percent of 150 is 0.20 times 150, which is 30.
- X is what percent of Y: divide X by Y, then multiply by 100. 30 out of 150 is 30 divided by 150 times 100, which is 20 percent.
- Percent change: subtract the old from the new, divide by the old, then multiply by 100. From 150 to 180 is 30 divided by 150 times 100, a 20 percent increase.
The percentage calculator uses these same three formulas, so your mental check and the tool always agree.
Everyday examples
- A discount: a 2,000 taka jacket at 25 percent off saves 500 taka, so you pay 1,500.
- An exam score: 42 marks out of 50 is 84 percent.
- A price rise: rent going from 12,000 to 13,500 is a 12.5 percent increase.
- A tip: 10 percent of a 1,200 taka bill is 120 taka.
Each of these is one of the three modes in the percentage calculator, so you rarely need pen and paper.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number. For 15 percent of 200, that’s 0.15 times 200, which is 30. The first mode of the percentage calculator does this instantly when you enter the two numbers.
How do I find what percent one number is of another?
Divide the first number by the second, then multiply by 100. So 45 out of 60 is 45 divided by 60 times 100, which is 75 percent. Use the second tab of the calculator for this.
How do I calculate percentage increase or decrease?
Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. From 80 to 100 is a 25 percent increase. A positive result is an increase, a negative one a decrease. The third tab handles this.
What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
A percent is a proportion, while a percentage point is the gap between two percentages. Going from 10 percent to 15 percent is a rise of 5 percentage points, but a 50 percent increase in relative terms. People often mix these up.
