Glittering Shores of Vaadhoo Island, Maldives

Unlike other islands in the earth, Vaadhoo Island in Maldives reveals unbelievable surprising scenario in night with its shimmering shores and glowing waves. The island is very popular to its visitors due to its surprising sea and also known as “the Sea of Stars”.

The island is very small with only 500 inhabitants but its beauty is boundless to describe.

Sparkling stars and glowing water creates an amazing view in night time. It seems that the shore is acting like a mirror to reflect the sparkling stars.

The marine microbes, phytoplankton known as dinoflagellates are responsible for the staggering scene. They also called bioluminescent plankton. Bioluminescence is the generation and emission of light by a living organism. While, the glowing blue waves creates the biological light through the Bioluminescence process. Those creates the most romantic natural lighting in the world and the place is one of best place for honeymoon.

The process of shore glittering discovered by Woodland Hastings of Harvard University. The research result found that the cell membrane of those microbes has a special channel that can respond to electric signals. The sparking microbes cannot be seen single but when they glitter together can be observed.

Many tourists visit the sea to enjoy the glittering night. They enjoy a beautiful scenario of shining blue light in clear water which alike sparkling stars in sky.
