Anemia is not a disease, but a symptom of many diseases. About 30 percent of the world’s population suffers from anemia. 800 million people worldwide suffer from iron deficiency anemia. So it can be said that this is a global health problem.
What is anemia?
Anemia refers to a deficiency of a pigment called hemoglobin in the blood. Depending on the age and sex, when the hemoglobin is below the desired level, it is called anemia.
Hemoglobin plays an important role in the body. It delivers vital oxygen to the cells. Thus hemoglobin deficiency disrupts the proper supply of oxygen to cells. The body gradually becomes weak and tired due to lack of oxygen.
Symptoms
When hemoglobin or blood is low, fatigue builds up in the body. Anorexia nervosa occurs. The body became short of breath with little effort. Excessive pressure on the heart. The heart rate increases. The body becomes pale. Even severe anemia can lead to heart failure. Then the water freezes on the feet. If you are lying down, you will have difficulty breathing. Anemia causes sores on the corners of the lips. There is a sore on the tongue. The papillae on the top of the tongue erode and become reddish like flesh. The shine of the hair is lost. The hair is torn, the nails are torn. Nervous weakness may occur. Folic acid and vitamin B-12 deficiency anemia, in particular, can affect the peripheral and central nerves. Chronic anemia compresses the upper part of the esophagus. As a result, it is difficult to swallow. Menstruation in women is irregular. Jaundice occurs when red blood cells break down and become anemic.
Causes
Iron deficiency can lead to anemia. In addition, even if the red blood cells are broken, this can happen. Chronic diseases such as kidney failure, liver failure, thyroid gland problems, arthritis, tuberculosis and various diseases can lead to anemia. Anemia can be caused by hemoglobin’s own disease such as thalassemia and many more. However, iron deficiency anemia is the most common in the world. Behind this are malnutrition, peptic ulcer, stomach ulcers as a result of taking painkillers, worm infections, piles or bleeding during menstruation etc.
What To do
If you are infected, you need to know about its severity first. We have to find out the reason behind it. You have to take treatment accordingly. If anemia occurs due to iron deficiency, iron-rich foods should be added to the diet. Anemia can also be caused by a deficiency of vitamin B-12 and folic acid. The supply of vegetables, grains and fruits including red meat, small fish, red spinach should be increased in the daily diet. Iron tablets, folic acid, vitamin B-12 should be taken especially in the field.
