Knock Out Phase Qatar World Cup Schedule 2022
The 2022 FIFA World Cup started with 32 teams and has now reached the knockout rounds. Anything can happen in the knockout stages.
The seeding of teams for Round of 16 matches is predetermined based on their respective group finishes (group winners or group runners-up).
Countries that won the group are paired with the runner-up from a different group in the Round of 16.
Qualified Teams in the group stage world cup 2022
France became the first team to reach the Round of 16 on 26 November and have since been followed by 14 teams.
Like France, Brazil and Portugal have mathematically qualified after just two match days. Groups A to H all complete group stage play by 3 December.

World Cup Bracket Round of 16
The upper bracket is divided into two divisions and each division will produce one World Cup finalist.
One half of the bracket consists of the following teams, from which one lucky finalist will be drawn-
- Netherlands (Group A winners)
- USA (Group B runner-up)
- Argentina (Group C winners)
- Australia (Group D runner-up)
- Japan (Group E winners)
- Croatia (Group F runners-up)
- Brazil (Group G winner)
- South Korea (Group H runner-up)
The other half of the bracket will produce one lucky World Cup finalist from the following teams:
- Senegal (runner-up in Group A)
- England (Group B winners)
- Poland (Group C runner-up)
- France (Group D winners)
- Spain (Group E runner-up)
- Morocco (Group F winners)
- Switzerland (Group G runner-up)
- Portugal (Group H winners)
How does the round of 16 work in the World Cup?
The Round of 16 is the stage commonly called the Knockout Round as from here one team is eliminated from each match.
There are no earned points or standings. There is only one winner and one loser.
What happens if the knockout match is a tie?
There will be one winner per day for each round of 16 match and for subsequent matches in the knockout rounds (quarter finals, semi finals, third place matches, finals). So if the teams are tied after 90 minutes of regulation, the match then goes into 30 minutes of extra time.
If the deadlock persists after 30 minutes of extra time, a penalty shootout will determine which team advances to the quarterfinals.
Knockout Round / Second Round Matches 2022
From the round of 16 to the final, every match is single elimination. Teams advance from the Round of 16 to the Quarter Finals, then the Semi Finals and finally the Finals.
As explained above, if the teams are tied at the end of 90 minutes of regulation, the teams will play 30 minutes of extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shootout.
