The first COVID-19 patient has been identified in Rohingya camp

Two refugees have been identified as infected with the coronavirus at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

As a result, coronavirus patients were found for the first time in refugee camps housing about one million Rohingya.

Rohingya Refugee Repatriation Commissioner’s Office Health Coordinator, Toaha Bhuiyan told that a sample of 36 people had been tested and two of them had been identified as coronavirus positive.

He also said that six more people who are believed to have come in contact with the victims have been separated.

On the other hand, one of the two victims has been kept in isolation under the supervision of the international organization Medicine Without Borders and the other under the supervision of the International Refugee Agency.

From the very beginning of the coronavirus infection in Bangladesh, health experts have been expressing concern about the Rohingya refugee camps.

The concern was compounded by the fact that about a million Rohingya live in small camps.

Due to this concern, the camp was partially closed on March 4 and completely locked down from March 14, the authorities said.
