Narrative Explanation Sample

I have completed my Masters in Disaster Management from “University Name” and Graduation in Agriculture form “University Name”, Bangladesh. My research interest area is effects of climate change especially in agriculture.

I am interested to work during the fellowship period on “Introduce GIS application in agricultural field broadly by giving special focus on climate change factors”. Climate change is resulting extreme weather events, seasonal variation, variable temperature and rainfall, sea level rising, melting ice caps, soil acidity, soil erosion etc which is ultimately affecting the chain of food supply and food security. Disasters may happen for a very short time, however, the effects sustain for longer time.  More data accumulation required to know the change pattern with period. GIS is essential for mapping of the prone areas and also for land use planning.

During Masters Studies I became fascinated with issues of climate change where I have performed my dissertation regarding climate change effect on livelihood of urban slum dwellers. During Graduation I worked on substantial alternative of chemical pesticides in controlling plant diseases through plant tissue culture, genetic engineering and biotechnological improvement. I have used bio-control agent and botanical extracts as biologically based and environmentally safe alternatives against seed borne and soil borne fungal pathogens.

I have a number of publications in peer reviewed journals. After completion of my Masters degree I have performed some of research from my own interest. At present I am involving with Save the Children International where also I have done an extended research surrounding the slum people’s livelihood. Currently I am also doing freelancing writings for newspapers, blogs etc.

Bangladesh is a disaster prone country, whither climate change, sea level rising, temperature rising are keeping the country at more risk. Development is needed here in every aspect. In Bangladesh, frequent disaster and the ultimate impact on agriculture are finally creating livelihood risk like unemployment, poverty, hunger, malnutrition, loss of food production, migration to city etc. I want to be a part in the development sectors for the betterment of my country and poor people. By achieving continuous knowledge I want to serve my country and would like to take part in development process of my country to the extended level.
